Gabriel

Gabriel Salazar Vergara (born 31 January 1936) is A Chilean historian. His country is well-known for the study of sociology as well as his theories of movement. He played a prominent role in the student demonstrations of the years 2011-12 and the 2006. Salazar was born to the poorest of families. He went to Universidad de Chile and studied sociology, philosophy and history. Also, he worked as an assistant for Mario Gongora and Hector Herrera Cajas the classical historian. Salazar was an active Revolutionary Left Movement member from 1973 until 1973. Two years later, the group was assaulted in Villa Grimaldi by the military. [2] Having been released from a prison for soldiers in 1976 he went into exile within the United Kingdom. He was given a grant to continue his studies in the University of Hull. The university he attended received a PhD diploma in Economic and Social History in 1984. He returned to Chile within the next year. The relatively unknown Salazar's breakthrough occurred in 1985. Salazar's study subjects were laborers, peons, and children Huachos, as well as women. Salazar is also the chief founder of Nueva Historia Social which is an historical movement. Salazar believes that history is an effective instrument for political action. Interview: Salazar said that he was an "leftist and critical socio historian" and opposed the notion of "Marxist".
